What’s the condition? Is it in pieces? If it’s all there I’d say do it

Could be fun!

Is even a question? You can always part a Mustang for more than $1k.
![]() 10/24/2015 at 15:07 |

Is the shell severely rusted out or damaged? If not go for it, a complete shell with no other parts is worth that these days.

For a grand? Hell, hop in head first!

Need pics. I dont like Mustangs, so the only way youre getting my attention is a 67-69 fastback, preferably with a Cobra Jet or Boss 429.

If you have the money to spare why not? It's worth that just to have something to toy with for years to come even if you don't drive it.
![]() 10/24/2015 at 16:04 |

even if you only got it running, you could probably make a few bucks selling it again. what kind is it ?!? are you at all mechanically able?

If it’s not rusty, go for it. I’ve always wanted to do a 1st-gen Mustang coupe restomod. Modernize the suspension and brakes, drop a 3.5 Ecoboost in there, refresh the interior and paint, and you’ve got a sweet cruiser for not all that much money. Less than $20K for sure if you can start with a $1K shell and do it yourself.

they are out there in there.

Well, my old high school car was a 67 Barracuda. Perhaps its prior sale regret.
Yes, plenty of work. hard to gauge what’s going on under the guttys.

To me, the 1K is the first hurdle. Yep, that threadbare and lackofsense.
Another neighbor has a restored one I can always reference for things.
![]() 10/24/2015 at 17:54 |

perhaps using 4x this as a reference..?

A grand? Why not.
![]() 10/24/2015 at 18:43 |

Hmmm. Doesn’t look too bad for a car that’s pushing 50. Still, an old car is always a can of worms. If you don’t have a bankroll for unexpected problems then it’s smart to shy away.

So it’s like, I need to pass the rattly 1990 VW over to the friend with the rattier 1992 same model if just so I can take it off my insurance and say I only own 5 cars. (but only 2 need extensive.. er they need engines)
That’s the other problem, borderline hoarding. or did I cross that border long ago when quantity>2; I just never rid myself of the broken ones.
sigh.. I so want to pull this off somehow, but the basic fact is that ‘spare’ money thing. Friend needs but can’t buy the 90, and neighbor will just want folded pieces of paper equal to what they are asking.
or just toss that and talk the other neighbor out of their rattly Forester, put that engine in the bug, salvage the rest and get the carport back to put the engine from the rattlier VW into the rattier VW convertible rabbit.
Also, I’ve never worked on a Mustang before. I don’t count that 84 Escort unless you mean ‘what cars have you owned’ survey.

Nice price for $1k. I mean those 6 cylinder cars are out there, you can get a driver for $3k, but I don’t see how you can go wrong with it.

Buy if not rusted. Nice resto beater project.
![]() 10/24/2015 at 19:25 |

Hmmm... “Ran when parked”, but you had to push it into the barn a decade ago? It’s definitely going to need some work: probably a few hundred bucks on top of your purchase price.
I would expect to have to change all fluids and tires, and be on the look-out for any damage caused by critters. Hopefully there’s no chewed-up wiring...
![]() 10/24/2015 at 20:19 |

Do it, be a hero. Check for rust in the trunk, because that can lead to bad things like the leaf springs pushing through the trunk pan. There is no feeling on the planet like owning a 50 year old piece of machinery. It could be your daily driver for $1000. Hell, if you don’t buy it, I will.
![]() 10/24/2015 at 20:21 |

Yeah that’s the problem, a bit of hoarding perhaps. Yeah.
I’ve not finished the prior delicious cans of worms I already own. I tried to get hold of the most knowledgeable resto person I know locally but if they don’t call then we’ll see what goes on.
The interested buyer might not be interested. Then they have a choice of pushing it back in the garage or toward my yard.
As in, I didn’t go out to the bank and slam a deposit in their hand.
I’d rather know someone could get a relative bargain, know better, still will have to throw money at it like I need to do on that Beetle I let freeze up.
The math (at least 2x purchase price to spare) ain’t quite right. So close. Stupid utilities, food, gas..
That’s the nice thing, I can always save money by letting it pass.
Plenty of things to weld and piece together already. But hard to ignore something like that, finding out by happenstance, next door.
Who knows what might happen in the next day. Either way the horse is out of the barn, almost.
okay, perhaps because it’s an automatic, with all the fun complexities and seals of unknown decade (1995, he said, was the last running) and I’d rather have it be a new owner that gets something done.
Anyone wanting the thing seriously and can western-union a proper payment can get it, most likely.
I’ll give it a nice clean while awaiting your trailer.
![]() 10/24/2015 at 20:30 |

Yep, had a 67 Barracuda. Rear shocks went into the trunk.
It’s very tricky to get to much right now. It will probably get pulled out tomorrow for a short or a long roll on a trailer.
See my other reply, I will be a middleman of no compensense other than getting it to a good home, if the person in line already turns it down.
Bring beetle motor. Heck, it’s hard to get one of those for 1k.
![]() 10/24/2015 at 20:42 |

Dude, $1k and ran when parked? All it needs is fluids, a battery and a tuneup, assuming animals didn’t destroy the wiring... Buy it!
![]() 10/24/2015 at 20:55 |
|
I can respect a man who knows his limitations. I search the internet every day for cars to buy, even though I don’t have any room for the cars I already own, haha. Good luck on the engine search!
![]() 10/24/2015 at 21:13 |

Honestly if you spent a couple days cleaning it up and getting it running (or close to it) you could resell and profit easily. Otherwise, looks like a fun project. If you decided to do a full resto it would cost quite a bit, but would be a good learning experience.

305 with a t5 and 4 link rear end... Can’t afford it but I want it.

You know what to do.

yay.
![]() 10/25/2015 at 04:55 |

Thanks, yep, you would not believe the stuff I’ve nearly stumbled upon that would have eliminated some meal and shelter payments.
The car itself is the cheap part of the process. Difficult sometimes to resolve getting a $125 part for a $400 car, but it’s all relative.
I’d say the most exotic CL find (didn’t buy) was the Corvette- Daytona kit car molded from one of the Miami Vice cars. There was more than one, not sure what they asploded for the show. Probably still some complicated legalities on that, but I mean, they couldn’t just show up and tow it away, right?
![]() 10/25/2015 at 08:34 |
|
It sounds like you have a very compelling reason not to get it. Seems like a situation where you try and talk someone you know into buying it so you can see what happens to it.
![]() 10/25/2015 at 10:52 |
|
Just a slight tinge of reality surrounding the situation, but we’ll see who shows up. The tow chain has not been hooked.
“we need something for the kid to drive to college” =
“well, sir, I have a equally priced VW jetta you can drive home right now.”
![]() 10/25/2015 at 15:32 |
|
Wow! That would have been interesting for sure. I would be the ultimate heathen and put a Jag V12 into that Corvette-Ferrari body.
![]() 10/25/2015 at 15:44 |
|
heh yeah, why not. The kit, not complete but assembled on the vette chassis, looked marginal on the edges due to the lack of the proper detail parts that [owner sourcing required] they couldn’t provide legally. The source of the molds was going into the kit business but you know those horse guys.
![]() 10/25/2015 at 15:49 |
|
Now I have to listen to the Miami Vice soundtrack while I work on my car.
![]() 10/25/2015 at 16:31 |

sorry about that. if it’s stuck in there anyway, head over to
http://miamiviceonline.com/index.php/foru… for insanely detailed trivia about the cars.
“the chrome strip of Car 2 doesn’t match Car 1”, “the grill is wrong after they hit the fish” etc.
At the time I was just skirting the edges of the net trying to figure out how a Daytona replica ended up in the area.
![]() 10/25/2015 at 16:40 |
|
Update: no-show on the prospect, it seems. It’s not going anywhere today, tomorrow. Who knows. Perhaps time enough to build up the big bag of $ to throw over the edge.
![]() 10/26/2015 at 01:40 |
|
Wow, that is a gem of a forum, also very bright. I know Mcburnie made the replicas, so it’s possible it was just one of those.
![]() 10/26/2015 at 12:29 |

Yeah, that Daytona was on for a month and then not. The internet finds all, even my region. Gotta have confidence in your tow rig, we got mountains.
I didn’t know movie car trivia till that one day I stumbled upon the site that deconstructed
Herbie the love bug
into the 8 distinct models they used. Torchinsky level.
Pilot.
Series.
catch the differences? no lightbar, bumper overriders, license plate, chrome beauty rings. The details.

Yikes, that’s properly nerdy
